FATHER of four with no legs and arms, proves that Anything is possible

‘You can change any bad situation into a good situation’: Father who lost both arms and legs at age two refuses to let his disability stop him caring for his FOUR kids – and holding a full-time job

A father-of-four without arms and legs has proved that everything is possible, despite losing all his limbs to meningitis – inflammation of brain and spinal cord membranes – at the age of two.

Joseph Reed, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, takes care of his kids, helps his wife with household duties and has a full-time job, all despite having no limbs.

The 34 year old said that although growing up without his arms and legs was hard, he can now live ‘no problem’ without his limbs, and that he doesn’t care what people say about him anymore.

He told Barcroft TV: ‘It was hard growing up with no limbs, everybody used to treat me differently back then, plus I grew up in a foster system.

‘Now I can live without limbs with no problem and I don’t care what people say anymore. I have to live for myself and be comfortable in my own skin.’

Joseph works as a sales rep in the electronics department at a local Walmart store.

He said: ‘I am probably the first cashier they have ever had with no hands and no legs.’

And when asked if his disability has affected his love life, Joseph said: ‘I have three beautiful kids with my wife. I have my youngest son outside my marriage.

‘So no, I would say that my condition didn’t affect my love life at all.’

Joseph met his wife, Lore Allen, in high school and the couple have now been married for over 13 years.

Asked about her impression of Joseph when they first met, Lore said: ‘This man was a serious playboy. He flirted with every woman he has seen.

‘The thing I love the most about Joseph is his personality and if I’d be down he comes in and brightens my day.

‘It’s never dull with Joseph,’ she added.

Lore said that despite her husband’s condition, Joseph always helps her with household duties.

‘He helps to run the house, he knows how to vacuum the floor. He also helps me to prepare food for the kids.

Joseph explained that he gets around the house my moving himself along on the floor, and hops up and down the stairs.

‘Even though he doesn’t have his limbs, he still can do everything. We live our life to the fullest,’ she said.

Lore admits that sometimes the couple get stared at when they are out and about.

She said: ‘I tell people, I don’t care. It doesn’t matter what age, what color it is, you know you love that person, that’s all that matters.

‘Love conquers all,’ she added.

Joseph experienced a difficult childhood, with his life in the care system leading to depression and even suicidal thoughts.

He said: ‘I went through a lot as a child, I even though about suicide a lot of times.’

Joseph had a troubled relationship with his adoptive mother and remembers the moment when he left her house in 2004.

He said: ‘My adopted mother was out of town.

‘I cleaned the whole house, I washed all the dishes, washed all the clothes, vacuumed and I left the house and never went back there,’ he added.

Today the 34-year-old father considers himself as a happy man and lives his life to the fullest.

He said his children and family help him to maintain a positive mindset.

‘What keeps me so positive is that I know I have my kids, they have a father who is disabled but yet he gets up, and he works and he makes his family straight.

‘And in the long run, the kids will have a chance to understand, “If my dad can do this with no hands and legs then I know I can do it and never give up”,’ he added.

He explained: ‘As a dad, the hardest thing about not having no limbs is not being able to play sports with my kids.’

Joseph, nicknamed by friends ‘nub zero the no-legged hero’ is a great inspiration to his friends and many others around him.

Joseph said: ‘I would say living with the condition like mine is, live life to the fullest, enjoy, get around people who care about you and you care about too.

‘Surround yourself with good people, not bad people and your life will flourish.

He added: ‘You change any bad situation into a good situation, everything you do in life, you have a choice.

‘The only thing we don’t have a choice in life is death,’ he said.

Study shows new drug remarkably stopping HIV infection among people with high risk behavior

After sleepless nights conducting research, a team of Australian medics has discovered and successfully tested a drug with the ability of stopping HIV infection. The drug branded as Truvada, according to the Sydney based researchers, was tested on over 3,700 people and the results were remarkable.

In a study published in October 2018, the medics said the blue Truvada pill targeted gay men (3669) and slightly above 30 bisexuals. The two groups were selected since they are classified as high risk populations. “The speed of the decline we have seen in new HIV infections in gay and bisexual men is a world first.

These numbers are the lowest on record since HIV surveillance began in 1985,” study leader Andrew Grulich was quoted by Bloomberg. Grulich is also head of HIV epidemiology and prevention at Kirby Institute of the University of New South Wales. Before the tests were launched, about 300 Australians (gay and bisexual) would be infected with the deadly virus within 12 months.

However, after the pills were administered in 2016, the number dropped to 102 by October 2018. Those who were infected are largely those who defaulted on adhering to the pills. The study came in the backdrop of an another research done by Israel scientists. They discovered a drug branded Gammora with ability to sweep away HIV infected cells from the body with an effectiveness rate of up to 99%.

A 26-year old man by the name Kimtai Kemboi come out to narrate how he ended up being HIV positive in a show Real talk on Switch TV.

According to Kemboi, he dropped out of high school in later stages due to lack of fees.

He came to Nairobi a 22-years-old to hustle in order to raise school fees and that’s when he met a woman who became his boss and he served as a gardens boy.

As time passed, he became more close to his boss, who was a single mother.

At some point, the lady offered to educate him on one condition.

“She said if I sleep with her she will educate me and because I was very desperate and confused,  I gave in,” said Kemboi.

This happened only once in 2013 according to Kemboi.

Kemboi said he believes the lady knew she was HIV positive and feels she intentionally infected him, taking advantage of his naivety.

“I think she knew(she is HIV positive),  so she did it(infected me) intentionally, ” said Kemboi.

Two years later, when he was walking,  he came across a mobile VCT and just made the decision out of just curiosity to be tested, in his mind he was sure he is negative at that point.

After the first test returned positive he was confused,  left the VCT  convincing himself that it was a bad test. He went for four other tests at different facilities but the results never changed.

Tracing back,  the woman she ever had intercourse with was the boss and no one else,  that is when it dawned on him.

He lived in denial for a long time,  not taking medications, with time he got convinced to start taking medication in 2016 and his life has changed since as he later became open and free to share his story.
