Large quantities of counterfeit clothing and footwear have been confiscated during an ongoing raid.

Large quantities of counterfeit clothing and footwear have been confiscated during an ongoing raid.

The Home Affairs Department says over 500 people, including hundreds of undocumented foreign nationals arrested during a police raid in the Johannesburg CBD, are expected to appear in court on Monday.

On Wednesday police swooped on shops belonging to foreign nationals and confiscated large quantities goods including clothing and sneakers as well as unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Hillbrow raid

The Police together with the Johannesburg Metro Police have also raided Hillbrow in a sting operation on Saturday. The raid comes after members of the community raised several complaints about escalating crime in the area.

The complaints range from drug trafficking, contravening by-laws and the presence of undocumented foreign nationals.

Johannesburg Metro Police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar says a number of arrests have been made.

“At least 17 will be processed for drinking in public and one for possession of counterfeit goods. We are not targeting anybody based on their nationality. The focus of the raid is anyone who is contravening the law. So if the person is an undocumented foreign national, unfortunately they will have to be taken. If you are in possession of unlicensed firearms or drugs, these too will have to be taken in and charges accordingly,” says Minnaar.

Migrant rights

Meanwhile, the Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR) have called on police to conduct their raids in a procedural, fair and legal manner.

The head of the LHR’s Johannesburg Law Clinic, Jessica Lawrence, has warned police against putting all foreigners in a category of illegal migrants.

“What we are seeing currently is that many people have just been arrested on the basis of being foreign. So migrants within South Africa particularly asylum-seekers and refugees are incredibly vulnerable and often people flee their home countries due to persecution on the basis of political opinion, gender, sexual orientation as well as war, so people come to South Africa seeking protection from the South African state.”

Billionaire lawyer Ned Nwoko is said to have sponsored actress Chika Ike’s luxury lifestyles, travels, purchases and TV show.

According to an Instagram blogger, Ned Nwoko spent lavishly on Chika Ike before he married Regina Daniels.

The Instagram blogger, gistmerchant wrote;

Do you know that it was Ned that was sponsoring Chika through all those her trips, purchases, tv show? He has a political ambition and needs to gain popularity but hooking up with chika hoping to gain popularity failed as Chika wasnt ready to show him to the public. Now he linked himself with Regina who wanted to also hide him but he refused and planted his camera people everywhere making sure their pictures were leaked and sent to the blog creating a media frenzy. Regina and her mum planned to chop and clean mouth.

We finally understand the fight between Jay-z and solange in the elevator

May 12, 2014 marked a holy day in the world of tabloid drama. In the early hours of that sacred Monday (at least, early enough to be the first person in at the office), TMZreleased a salacious security video that depicted Solange Knowles, sister of queen Beyoncé, brawling with her brother-in-law, Jay-Z, in an elevator at The Standard Hotel in New York City. There was no audio; it was recorded in black and white; and most of us spent the next 24 hours trying to unravel what the king of Brooklyn hip hop could have possibly done to invoke a Game of Thrones-like retaliation from a family member.

Today, Jay and Solange’s elevator incident is almost as iconic as Bey’s surprise Lemonade drop or her pregnancy announcement — the latter became the most-liked Instagram photo of 2017. We all remember where we were when we watched that feud footage. Though complete clarity may never occur (the stars have not specifically said what led them to throw bows), we do finally understand what probably sparked Solange and Jay-Z’s elevator fight.

What went down in the infamous footage

Jay-Z has 99 problems, and his sister-in-law might just be one of the biggest — at least she was at the time. The pair’s elevator fight is probably the most exciting thing to happen surrounding the Met Gala outside of Harry Styles’ high-waisted pants.

According to TMZ, the elevator incident occurred following a Met Gala after-party at The Standard Hotel. In the footage, you can clearly see Solange lunge at her brother-in-law and start kicking and swinging with such fervor that we actually hear (or maybe we just think we hear) her scream, despite the video having absolutely no audio. A person who appears to be a bodyguard tries to hold her back, but the star manages to get at Jay at least three times. She even smacks him with her purse, which spills all over the floor.

The bodyguard is the true unsung hero of the tiny elevator. You can see him slamming the emergency stop at what TMZ claimed was the 12th floor in a clear attempt to keep the fight under wraps. Though Jay never swings at his sister-in-law, he does grab her foot mid-kick. Beyoncé, on the other hand, just stands there and watches it happen. They all exit the elevator and are snapped in a now-famous photo that shows Solange clearly angry, Jay-Z absolutely bewildered, and Bey quietly smirking. It didn’t take long for the incident to become a meme, and #WhatJaySaidToSolange quickly went viral.

Solange might have been provoked

Not that assault is ever justifiable, but a number of sources — including Jay-Z himself — speculated that Solange was provoked. Who provoked her? It might have something to with that rumored “Becky with the good hair,” Rachel Roy. Roy was previously married to Damon Dash, Jay-Z’s former business partner, and according to E! News, she may have been a little too flirty with the rapper at the after-party. According to People, Solange “had a run-in” with the designer earlier in the evening and Beyoncé allegedly warned her to stay away from her sister. Another source claimed Solange and Roy barely interacted, and Solange was supposedly “yelling at other people at the party.” Perhaps the truth has more to do with Jay’s behavior than any number of potential Becky’s (a long list of suspects that includes Rita Ora, Rihanna, and even Taylor Swift).

People speculated that Jay-Z ignited the argument when he “said something inappropriate” to the Knowles sisters. This allegedly annoyed Solange enough that she blew up in the elevator. The rapper all but confirmed this theory with his 2017 album 4:44. In the song “Kill Jay-Z,” he raps: “You egged Solange on / Knowin’ all along /All you had to say you was wrong.” So there you have it, at some point in time (probably in that infamous elevator) Jay-Z poked the bear.

The tape was sold to TMZ for a reported $250K

One of the major curiosities surrounding the elevator footage is who the heck leaked it. According to The Grio, the swanky hotel opened a full investigation into who was behind the leak and vowed to “prosecute the individuals involved” to the “fullest capacity.”

Though it’s probably no consolation to the Carters, the hotel reportedly did manage to find the person responsible for the leak. It was a staffer who they promptly fired. TheAtlantic muses that it was either a security guard who monitored the cameras or an employee who had access to where the monitors were held. According to the Associated Press (via TIME), the hotel planned to hand over “all available information to criminal authorities” — but was it even a crime?

The Atlantic reports that the legality of the leak depends on whether or not the hotel is considered a public space. It’s apparently legal to “record anything you see in public spaces” provided you don’t harass anyone, but the actual leak of the tape is where things get dicey. Because the tape belongs to the hotel and not the employee who pawned it off to TMZ for a reported$250,000, nabbing that footage could be considered petty larceny.

There were a lot of weird theories behind the brawl

Major tabloid dirt is fertilizer for unfounded conspiracy theories, and Solange and Jay-Z’s elevator brawl is right up there with the Carters’ possible involvement in the Illuminati. What makes $1 billion in an elevator cause such chaos? A number of ideas about what triggered the fight started cropping up all over the Internet almost as instantly as the security footage leaked.

Feminist blog Jezebel contemplated — with no evidence whatsoever — that Solange started swinging because Jay-Z insulted her as a mother. Sure, that’s enough to make anyone see red, almost as much as if Jay-Z spoiled Game of Thrones for his sister-in-law, which Vice pondered might have actually been the case. Given the pair’s silence on the disappointing finale, we’re not sure they even watch the show. Can you imagine Hov kicking it on Sunday night to GoT?

According to TIME, Gawker’s Sam Biddle floated an interesting idea that the fight might have been a staged prank for Jimmy Kimmel. In reality, people famous enough to rent out the Louvre with just a month’s notice probably don’t mess with talk show pranks, unless you’re somehow unfortunately subjected to Ellen DeGeneres. Another, more sinister theory by Jezebelclaimed Solange was a “nasty drunk,” though she was reportedly not intoxicated at the time.

Infidelity likely fueled the fire

Even though there are a number of bizarro conspiracy theories surrounding Solange’s elevator fight, it’s largely thought that Jay-Z’s infidelity was the spark that burned the whole thing down (and possibly the reason why Bey was smiling while walking out of that elevator). Beyoncé referenced cheating throughout her 2016 Lemonade album, and Jay-Z hinted about the same thing in 4:44when he raps: “You almost went Eric Benét / Let the baddest girl in the world get away / I don’t even know what else to say.” For reference, singer Eric Benét cheated on Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry before the pair split in the early aughts.

Hov released 4:44 in June 2017 and let the infidelity rumors marinate for a few months until he publicly came clean in a November interview with The New York Times’ T magazine. “You know, most people walk away, and like divorce rate is like 50 percent or something ’cause most people can’t see themselves,” he said. “The hardest thing is seeing pain on someone’s face that you caused, and then have to deal with yourself.” The rapper admitted that therapy helped him save his marriage, but let’s be real: For a while, the internet collectively wanted to pull a Solange for daring to cross her royal majesty, the queen Bey.

Solange has a history of speaking her mind

Beyoncé’s “Flawless” remix is filled with references to her sister’s elevator brawl. The singer mentions that “sometimes sh*t go down when it’s a billion dollars on an elevator” and “my sister told me I should speak my mind.” It sure sounds like Solange was standing up for Beyoncé at the time, and in truth, little sis is known for fiercely defending her kin and letting others have it in public.

Following the elevator scandal, BuzzFeedgloriously rounded up the numerous times Solange shut down haters and caused a public scene. This includes when she accused pop star Katy Perry of “polluting” children, slammed Miley Cyrus’ VMA performance, and claimed a police officer pulled a weapon on her at a Miami club when she tried to enter holding a giant inflatable banana (also known as banana-gate, and yes, it’s bizarre). In the past, Solange has called out Beyoncé birth truthers, slammed the local news, railed against the TSA for patting down her hair in airport security, and denounced Instagram haters. She even rallied against sexism in the music industry when she absolutely skewered Pitchfork over a review that depicted her as the “muse” of her songs rather than, you know, the person who actually co-wrote them.

All in all, Solange’s tongue is swiftly-pointed acid — sometimes for better (like when she’s championing gender and racial equality) and sometimes for worse (you probably shouldn’t hit your brother-in-law, even if he did something hurtful).

Jay-Z and Solange are cool now

It appears that blood — and legally binding marriages — really are thicker than water. For the Carters, the salacious brawl is water under the bridge … or hot sauce in Beyoncé’s bag. Though the family left The Standard in separate cars in the heat of the moment, it didn’t take them long to work things out. In a joint statement (via The Hollywood Reporter)that was released ten days after the original footage leaked, the Knowles-Carter clan claimed Jay-Z and Solange Knowles assumed “their share of responsibility” (which suggests that Hov did do something to set off his sister-in-law) and have apologized and moved forward.

Jay-Z later opened up about his relationship with Solange in an episode of Rap Radar on Tidal (via ABC News). He claimed the pair only had one disagreement (We can presume he’s talking about the elevator) and that they were “cool” both “before and after.” In Jay’s words: “That’s my sister. Not my sister-in-law, no, my sister. Period.”

They used music as therapy to heal from the infidelity

Jay-Z said he and Beyoncé used Lemonadeand 4:44 as a means to help them heal from infidelity and save their marriage from divorce. It’s also what prompted them to make an album together while they were independently working on their respective LPs (and we can never repay the Carters for gifting us with “Apes**t”).

In an interview with The New York Times’ Tmagazine, Jay admitted they didn’t converse about the soul-baring lyrics they were writing into their music. That’s powerful when you consider that Beyoncé’s Lemonade had some scathing lines (see: “So what are you gonna say at my funeral, now that you’ve killed me … ashes to ashes, dust to side chicks.”) The rapper likened the experience of making music under such circumstances to sitting in the middle of a hurricane — it was uncomfortable, frightening, and raw. He told T magazine that he was “really proud of the music she made, and she was really proud of the art I released. And, you know, at the end of the day we really have a healthy respect for one another’s craft. I think she’s amazing.”

Papa Knowles even laughed at the incident

The world might have been shocked that Solange would dare attack her brother-in-law, but there was one person who was very unsurprised: Mathew Knowles. Four years after the famed Met Gala after-party incident, the singer’s father went on The Wendy Williams Show and let everyone know Solange was just being Solange when she clocked the platinum-selling rapper. “I laughed so hard because if you know Solange, that’s Solange,” he said. “…You just never know what you’re gonna get — a firecracker. Don’t know where she gets that from, then Beyoncé would be in the corner, quiet, just kinda like, ‘When y’all finish, let me know.'”

Beyonce has a complicated relationship with her father and former manager. According to Cosmopolitan, Live Nation suspected her dad was stealing from her in 2010. Bey ordered an audit and severedprofessional ties with him the following year. Mathew later sued Live Nation over the accusation, but the judge ruled in favor of the ticketing giant. It seems Solange’s relationship with Mathew is also complicated. According to TMZ, she did not attend her father’s wedding to Gena Avery following his divorce from their mother, Tina.

They reenacted the scene for paps

At least you know the Carters can laugh at themselves. Three years after the infamous fight, it seems like Bey and Jay are taking their cues from Mathew Knowles and laughing over the wacky brawl. According to TMZ, the pair celebrated Jay-Z’s 48th birthday by renting out a theater at the Angelika Film Center in New York City for a private showing of Wonder Wheel. When the pair was leaving via an elevator, Hov reportedly held it open and allowed photographers to snap a pic. In a video of the moment, you can hear him saying “Hurry up, come get it.”

Bey was reportedly all smiles in her Versace dress as Jay adopted a bewildered look similar to the original picture from The Standard Hotel elevator incident. Sadly, Solange was missing from the snap, so this isn’t a true reenactment, but at least we now know that Jay hasn’t developed a phobia of elevators.

Serena Williams was banned from french open because of what she is wearing see photo

(CNN) — After the catsuit she wore during last year’s French Open was banned, Serena Williams is taking the court this year in a flashy, black-and-white set with a mesh underlay.

A few months after last year’s tournament, French Open President Bernard Giudicelli announced a stricter dress code, specifically called out Williams’ catsuit and said players should choose outfits “to respect the game and place.”

His comments sparked backlash, especially since Williams’ catsuit was designed with compression elements to help prevent blood clots, which she dealt with after the birth of her daughter in 2017.

The ensemble Williams has worn for her two matches this week was designed for Nike by Virgil Abloh, founder of luxury streetwear brand Off-White.

It has a short asymmetrical skirt, tucked up high on the left hip. The warm-up jacket — loose, hip-length — is of the same material, a bold black-and-white design with French words for mother, queen,  goddess and champion.

On the court, Williams wore it with a tight black shirt on Thursday and with a midriff-baring tight tank top on Monday.

Abloh, who also helms Louis Vuitton’s menswear line, designed the memorable tutu Williams wore during last year’s U.S. Open.

The 10th-seeded Williams has won both her French Open matches so far, 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 over Russia’s Vitalia Diatchenko on Monday, and 6-3, 6-2 over Japan’s Kurumi Nara on Thursday.  On Saturday she’ll play 35th-ranked Sofia Kenin, a fellow American.

Williams, 37, has won the French Open three times.

Tweeps go on head to head debate on casper lack of education and his bringing-see interesting details

It is almost midnight and everyone is busy battling their thumbs against keyboards debating Cassper Nyovest who is currently at the top of the trending list on Twitter.

The talk started earlier today when one Twitter user claimed to have seen Cassper’s Grade 10 report. The person stated what most have suspected that Nyovest was a failing student.

Cassper’s defence was that he may be uneducated but at least his bank is account is insanely loaded. He has supported the ideal that not everyone needs education to be successful and has seen himself as the perfect proof of that.

Tweeps had a lot to say about Cassper, they are busy clashing heads against each other expressing all sorts of opinions ranging from how he needs education to how his bragging tendencies are getting stale.
