Jewish worshippers attending Nnamdi Kanu parents Burial Detained by Nigerian soldiers.

A combined team of Nigerian soldiers and police have allegedly abducted Jewish worshippers at Isiala-Ngwa Junction who were on their way to attend the burial ceremony of the parents of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and his wife.

This is according to a post by Nnamdi Kanu on his verified Facebook page on Thursday.

He said, “Information reaching me now is that two buses conveying Jewish worshippers on their way to my hometown Isiama-Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia Abia State for the funeral of my parents have been abducted at Isiala-Ngwa Junction by a combined team of Nigerian soldiers and police. They are currently being detained in their barracks”.

The Abia State Police command had earlier in the day accused Nnamdi Kanu of importing strangers into Afara community to truncate the peace and stability currently enjoyed by the people.

The Force warned that any attempt to cause fear and panic in the People’s mind will be resisted.

Johannesburg,

At least 600 foreign nationals were arrested by police on Wednesday, South African media reports.

In the targeted search operation carried out in the main city, Johannesburg, police also confiscated firearms and a “large consignment” of counterfeit goods in various buildings.

David Makhura, premier of the Gauteng province which surrounds Johannesburg, tweeted that the crackdown is a part of a clean-up operation.

He said authorities were happy with the number of suspects arrested, according to South African newspaper the Citizen.

“The main issue have [sic] been with people who are driving taxis without licences and these taxis are not supposed to be on our roads,” the paper quotes the premier as saying.

The operation, known as O Kae Molao, is trending on social media, where some people raised concerns that it might encourage xenophobia.

The inner city spiralled into chaos last weekwhen police clashed with shop owners.

On Thursday, police confiscated counterfeit goods that foreigners were selling in the city centre.

The shop owners resisted, attacking officers and damaging their vehicles.

Shop owners say they were retaliating to the abuse they’ve faced over time, but are hoping to meet with police.

Government has condemned the attack on police, but the African Diaspora Forum says there are two sides to the story.
