After conceding an equaliser in the 70th minute, Jurgen Klopp switched to a 4-2-4 formation and chased the game, knowing a draw would give Manchester City a leg-up in the title race.

The German tactician’s courage was rewarded in added time as Mo Salah’s header was fumbled by Hugo Lloris, leading to Toby Alderweireld putting it in his own net.

Salah wheeled away in celebration in front of the Kop, and the moment was commemorated with a jubilant Carragher on commentary.

“Mo Salah, you little dancer!” he shrieked, unable to conceal his allegiance to the Reds.

Chief colour commentator Gary Neville, who has been known for his excitability on the microphone, chimed in soon after.

“A local fan grabbed the microphone and started celebrating, apologies for that,” he joked.

And the banter between the pair continued in the Gary Neville Podcast, recorded in the Anfield gantry directly after the game.

“Well I thought Sky Sports got rid of FanZone about seven or eight years ago,” Neville remarked.

“But it just returned for the last five minutes of that match.”

Carragher was given a chance to reply a couple of minutes later, saying: “I don’t apologise for that.

“I’m not going to hide it; I’m a massive Liverpool fan. I’m desperate for Liverpool to win the league.

“Moments like that last minute goal I’ll let you know. Don’t worry about that.”
