Man Accused Of Cutting Woman 44 Times To Hide DNA Gets Life Sentence. The sentence was given to him by the Northern Cape High Court on Thursday.
Jacob Esel, a 28-year-old male, got two life sentences. The 28-year-old raped, strangled, cut and killed a 47-year-old female. He also tried to rape an elderly family member in Barkly West.
“…12 years for attempted rape and five years for the violation of a corpse. The sentences will run concurrently,” says Captain Sergio Kock, a police spokesperson.
The sentence was given to him by the Northern Cape High Court on Thursday. The decision was from charges that start from 2018. According to Captain Sergio Kock, Esel cut the 47-year-old woman a number of times on her lower body area. He cut her to remove any DNA that might be traced to him.
“The victim suffered 44 wounds on her body but her death was a result of strangulation at her home in Barkly West,” says Captain Kock.
Essel pleaded guilty to the charges laid against him just after his arrest.
