A 20-year-old boy in Limpopo is being charged with culpable homicide following the tragic death of his sister. His father Jonas Seanego may also be charged with defeating the ends of justice.
It relates to an accident in Brakenberg, outside Mokopane on Monday, when the 17-year old sister was apparently in the family’s bakkie with other pupils from a local school.
Police are investigating reports that that the sister jumped from the moving vehicle, which was driven by her 20-year old brother. She fell to her death. The brother does not have a driver’s license.
Limpopo police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe adds that the deceased was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was certified dead.
It’s also alleged that the father didn’t report the incident to the police and forced hospital staff to release his daughter’s body without following the correct processes. “At this stage, we are still investigating because they tried to hide the incident by taking the body to a private mortuary and subsequently started to arrange for the funeral,” Ngoepe said.
The bakkie has also been confiscated by police as part of the probe. Police will conduct a postmortem on the 17-year-old girl’s body on Friday. “We are conducting an autopsy today (Friday) and we are expecting arrests soon.”
