Police in Magatle outside Lebowakgomo have arrested a 27-year-old suspect for allegedly “dismembering a 55-year-old victim of his private parts”, Limpopo police said on Sunday.

The incident happened at Bolahlakgomo village at around 3am on Sunday morning, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.

“The victim was found by a passerby, naked, bleeding, and in an agonising pain. The police were called and reacted swiftly, but by the time they arrived at the scene the victim had already been taken to hospital,” he said.

The victim had also suffered multiple stab wounds and had been admitted to hospital in a critical condition.

“Preliminary investigations led police to the suspect’s house at Bolahlakgomo, where the alleged severed private parts were found placed in a washing basket. Forensic investigations will still be conducted to determine if the private parts belong to the victim. The suspect was not found at his house.”

A manhunt was immediately launched and the suspect was arrested within hours at a wedding ceremony at Bolahlakgomo.

The suspect, previously convicted and jailed for murder and malicious damage to property, would appear in the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of attempted murder.

“The motive for this brutal attack is unknown at this stage. Police investigations are continuing,” Ngoepe said.

It’s understood congregants assembled at the Tshwane Events Centre show grounds on Friday night for a church service.

JOHANNESBURG – The South African Police Service (SAPS) says it’s investigating the death of three congregants who have died during a stampede at Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s Enlightened Christian Gathering Church in Tshwane.

It’s understood congregants assembled at the Tshwane Events Centre show grounds on Friday night for a church service.

The stampede occurred when an unexpected thunderstorm hit Tshwane and church members started pushing each other while seeking shelter.

Church members have been left reeling this festive season after the death of three female congregants and injuries of nine.

The exact cause of the incident is not yet known.

Police have urged families with a missing person believed to have attended the church service on Friday night to visit the Pretoria West police station.

Officials will be visiting the victims who are recovering various hospitals on Sunday afternoon.

Police spokesperson captain Augustina Selepe said: “We urge people who actually know that their family members might have attended the church service to go and visit Pretoria West police station so that they can be assisted.”

Meanwhile, last month The Star reported that Bushiri was being taken to court over the non-payment of almost a million rand to a company contracted to his church to provide transport services.

A church wedding turned chaotic in Nakuru on Saturday when a 21-year-old woman stormed the ceremony claiming to be the wife of the groom.

The wedding between Mr Dennis Kinyanjui and Ms Agnes Wangari was being held at ACK Jehovah Shammah Nakuru in Pipeline area when the irate woman, Ms Agnes Wanjiru, stormed the church in the company of her mother and friends.

Ms Wanjiru claimed she is six-months pregnant and has been cohabiting with Mr Kinyanjui for the past three years. She claimed the groom had committed to take care of her and their unborn child.

CONFRONTATION

Drama ensued when she was barred from accessing the church compound, leading to a bitter exchange of words.

Those inside the church blocked the group accompanying Ms Wanjiru from accessing the premises and she had to jump over the gate in her bid to stop the wedding.

As the confrontation was taking place, the wedding was conducted hurriedly inside the church where the clergy pronounced the two as husband and wife.

Ms Wanjiru queried why the wedding was conducted at ACK Jehovah Shammah and not at the Saints Prayers Fellowship situated in Ponda Mali, Nakuru where they have been members in the past year.

The Saints Prayers Fellowship church Bishop Stephen Kariuki had received a letter from Ms Wanjiru’s lawyer to stop the wedding.

Although the wedding went on under the leadership of a pastor identified as Livingstone Kimani of Heroes of Faith Church Ponda Mali Nakuru, the two factions extended the bitter exchange outside the church.

‘WHISKED AWAY’

The confrontation left some of the church’s window panes broken.

After the wedding, the bride and the groom were whisked away in vehicles at high speed.

According to Ms Wanjiru’s mother, Ms Lucy Wanjiku, the groom had visited her with his family to ask for her daughter’s hand in marriage and both families had consented to the union.

“We were yet to make plans to fully formalise their marriage when we were informed that he was planning to marry another woman,” said Ms Wanjiku.
