Fairland Police are on the lookout for two suspects in a white Volvo after an attempted hijacking took place near a fabric shop on Beyers Naude Drive on 17 November.
According to Fairland Police Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Clive de Freitas, suspects in a Volvo stopped behind a victim in a Ford Ranger bakkie and attempted to hijack him.
Startled, the victim reversed his vehicle backwards, hitting other customers’ cars in the process.
The suspects then opened fire on the victim.
Hearing the commotion, nearby store owners rushed out of their store to help the victim by retaliating with their own firearms.
One suspect was shot, while the other two, who have been unconfirmed to be injured, got away driving their white Volvo.
Paramedics responded to the injured suspect, but he was declared dead on the scene.
One unlicensed firearm was recovered.
